Beatrice Mayer

BSc, BEd, MSc

Beatrice Mayer completed her Master of Science in Medical Biology at the Paris-Lodron-University (PLUS) of Salzburg in 2024. Since December 2023, she works as a Prae-Doc at the Institute for Physiology and Pathophysiology at the Paracelsus Medical University (PMU) of Salzburg and furthermore, since October 2024 at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Arthritis and Rehabilitation. Together with her supervisors Markus Ritter, Martin Jakab and Hubert Kerschbaum, she is studying the effects of ferroptosis and lipid peroxidation on volume-sensitive and acid-sensitive ion channels in human chondrocytes by applying patch-clamp techniques. Thereby improving the understanding of the chondrocyte channelome in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis and helping to identify new targets for developing much-needed disease-modifying drugs.
