Birgit Lohberger
Birgit Lohberger is Senior Scientist, docent, and head of the research unit of the Department of Orthopedics and Trauma, Medical University Graz. Since 2014 she owns the venia docendi for the subject „Theoretical-Experimental Orthopaedics“. Furthermore, she has been the chair of the Doctoral School “Bone, Muscle and Joint” since 2017.
Her fields of research are sarcoma and chordoma, with attention to the basic cellular and molecular biological processes after treatment with chemotherapy or radiotherapy with particle radiation, projects that are carried out in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Austrian Center for cancer treatment MedAustron.
Since 2019, the research group headed by Birgit Lohberger is an official partner institute of the LBG Institute for Arthritis and Rehabilitation (2019-2021; 2022-2025). Mechanical stimulation of human chondrocytes and modulation of signal transduction cascades in a cellular osteoarthritis model are key topics within this cooperation.
To date she has published 67 articles (SCI/SSCI/PUBMED) and has given 138 talks/posters at national and international congresses.
