Martin Jakab is principal investigator and lecturer at the Institute of Physiology and Pathophysiology/Center of Physiology, Pathophysiology and Biophysics Salzburg and Nuremberg at the Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg (https://www.pmu.ac.at/en/physiology.html). He received his doctoral degree at the Paris-Lodron University of Salzburg (PLUS) and was bestowed the venia docendi in Physiology at the Paracelsus Medical University in 2009. Martin Jakab combines a long-standing expertise in medical education with a wide spectrum of skills in basic science and experimental techniques. Since 2012 he is head of the Laboratory of Functional and Molecular Membrane Physiology (FMMP). His research focuses on mechanisms of cell volume and intracellular pH regulation and their influences on the electrophysiological behavior of cells, cell proliferation and viability, cell migration, cell death, and the development of pathological conditions like cancer or osteoarthritis.
